Sycamore Review

"When You Wanted Me"

by Jennifer Bryan

On the last Wednesday afternoon in July, Reverend Marcus Dixon knocked on our door.  He was tall.  Taller than me, and I had grown four inches during the summer and stood five feet eleven.  I would be the tallest girl in my eighth grade class that fall.

I was surprised by his good looks period.  His blond hair was thick and fell just below his ears.  He had a light tan, and his sunglasses perched on his head, the way it seemed only women wore them. Standing behind Grandmother, I couldn't tell the color of his eyes.
